GC Robertson delivered structural engineering services for The Bell Public House in Purleigh - a Grade II listed inn with origins in the 17th century. The project involved constructing a new kitchen extension and remodelling part of the existing building for storage.
Working closely with conservation officers, GCR designed pile and beam foundations to address the clay soil, and a concealed steel portal frame to provide structural integrity while maintaining the building’s traditional appearance. Timber and brick finishes, alongside updated drainage systems, ensured the extension met both heritage and functional requirements - preserving the pub’s character while supporting its continued use.
